Sharing this tiny little road on the edge of a cliff,
on the way to Padmasambhava's caves |
We took this trip to Tso Pema on the way back from Dharamsala and Dzongskar College. It is a very spiritual place because this is where Padmasambhava an emanation of the Buddha had spent his time meditating in three caves above this lake and....
The lake itself was formed when the King of an ancient city called Zahore had a beautiful daughter that he wanted to marry off but was stunned to find out that she only wanted to learn about the Dharma and she wanted to listen to the teachings of Padmasambhava. The king was so mad at Padmashambhava that he tried to kill him by tying him to a stake and lighting a huge fire beneath him. But for seven days the fire burned but never burned Padmasambhava because he was a spiritual being, and then in the very spot where the fire burned a lake formed and that is Lotus lake - Tso Pema. This was my very rough version of the story it is really a wonderful story if you have time google it. I just don't have much time.
Tso Pema was just amazing, so peaceful! and as you approach it, as you are driving around these curves you look up and there is this giant statue of Padmasambhava you can see if from miles away! we walked around the lake reciting Om Mani padme hum and stopped to sit by the water and watch the millions of fish that live in this lake, we also stopped to hang prayer flags. When we were done walking around the lake we drove up higher into the mountains to visit the caves that Padmasambhava meditated in, this was really amazing! And as a birthday present for me Larry and Colin let me sit in there by myself I couldn't believe it there was no body there! The hole in the cave where the princess used to listen to Padmasambhava do his prayers was there too it was amazing!

There are actually 3 caves but we couldn't make it to the last one, very high and Colin was very low on patience at that point although he loved being in the caves and the walk around the lake. at this point he was about done : ) Anyway it is late only me and the tiny lizard on the ceiling are still up, and I think I am cramping his style he has things he wants to get to when the lights are out and I am ruining it for him. Every time i look up he freezes and as soon as I look away he takes off, very funny he is really cute! ok goodnight! Teresa
