The Mahabodhi Temple was built right next to the Bodhi tree where the Buddha sat meditating until his enlightenment. After the Buddhist monks fled during them Mughal invasions the temple was empty until occupied for a short while by Hindu's from there the HIndu's and Buddhists argued over who's Temple it was for years and years until the high court of India decided that it should be shared as a holy spot for both.
